Yesterday, 30 January, the Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic correspondent Elman Abbasov and Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev, and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Turan News Agency Nakhchivan correspondent Malahet Nasibova have addressed a complaint letter to Nakhchivan City Police Department, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Ministry of Interior regarding threatening calls made to their mobile telephones.
In the appeal, they ask law enforcement organs to conduct an investigation in connection with the threatening calls, to find and charge those responsible for these calls and to take measures to secure the personal safety of IRFS Nakhchivan correspondents and the office of the Resource Center for Democracy and Development of NGOs that they use as editorial office.
On 29 January, at approximately 6:55 p.m., Institute for Reporters' Freedom and Safety Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic correspondent Elman Abbasov was threatened via mobile telephone. According to Abbasov, a man who identified himself as Sadarak region resident Malik Aliyev and said he was an invalid threatened Abbasov and his IRFS colleague Hakimeldostu Mehdiyev.
"This person said that he will blow up their office which is situated on Nakhchivan city, Ataturk prospect 33, at the Resource Center for Democracy and Development of NGOs. After ten minutes that person called Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty and Turan News Agency Nakhchivan correspondent Malahet Nasibova and also threatened her,” said Abbasov.
