APFP Julfa Region Department Chairman Rza Nuriyev, who was detained illegally for 17 days, passed away on 23 February. He was 62 and was buried in his native village on 24 February. This was reported by IRFS Nakhchivan Correspondent Hekimeldostu Mehdiyev who took part in the funeral ceremony.
Roads going to Julfa region Beneniyar village were taken under control by the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic law enforcement organs. However, they did not interfere in the funeral ceremony.
“There were several civil clothed law enforcement representatives. They followed me mostly because I was taking pictures. Rza Nuriyev’s funeral ceremony took place with participation of a big crowd. His corpse was covered with Azerbaijani flag and he was buried as a martyr,” said Mehdiyev.
On 27 December 2009, during a religious ceremony in the Beneniyar village, police intervened, detained Khalilov Nail Yusif oglu, Guliyev Nazir Mashdaga oglu, Guliyev Ali Nazir oglu, Aliyev Yusif Khayyam oglu, Seyidov Jafar Fattah oglu, Khalilov Nahid Yusif oglu and Aliyev Kamal Yunis and took them to Julfa district Alinja Police Department. The detained people were subjected to physical pressure there. Bananiyar village residents emphasized that Aliyev Kamal Yunus oglu was subjected to pressure more than anyone did. Then the police wanted to take them to hospital for the mentally ill. Aliyev Kamal’s son Aliyev Yunus protested and burned himself. Before committing this action, he warned the police that he would pour petroleum on himself and burn himself. And the police told him, “go ahead.” Yunus took out the match and began burning himself.
On 5 January 2010 at evening hours internal army and a number of police were brought to Beneniyar village. The village entrance was closed and the village was circled. Trade centers in village were torn down and windows of houses were broken. The houses basements and stables were searched.
